Hotel am Bayrischen Platz Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Hotel am Bayrischen Platz on Paul-List-Straße – I mean, it’s a 3-star place in what used to be East Leipzig, and sometimes those can be hit or miss. But you know what? This little spot actually surprised me in the best way possible.
The thing about staying in Mitte is that you’re right in the thick of Leipzig’s most interesting contradictions. One minute you’re walking past beautifully restored Gründerzeit buildings, the next you’re discovering some incredible street art tucked into a courtyard that most tourists never see. The hotel itself sits on this quiet residential street that feels authentically local – not sanitized for visitors, if that makes sense. I loved hearing the distant hum of the city mixing with actual neighborhood sounds: kids playing in nearby courtyards, the occasional tram rumbling by on a parallel street. It’s that rare sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing real Leipzig life without sacrificing comfort.
What really won me over was how the staff seemed to actually know their city. When I asked about getting to the Völkerschlachtdenkmal (because honestly, who doesn’t want to climb that massive monument?), the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the tourist tram – he mentioned this great little café nearby where I could grab proper Saxon potato soup afterward. The rooms themselves are clean and thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. Nothing fancy, but everything works, and the beds are actually comfortable, which… well, you know how hit-or-miss hotel beds can be. I particularly appreciated that the windows opened properly – so many places have those awful sealed systems, but here you can actually get fresh air flowing through.
The location really grows on you the longer you stay. You’re walking distance to Leipzig’s Innenstadt, but you’re also perfectly positioned to explore the grittier, more creative parts of the city that are honestly way more interesting than the main shopping pedestrian zone. I found myself taking different routes back to the hotel each evening, discovering hidden beer gardens and those tiny galleries that seem to pop up in former industrial spaces. Parking was surprisingly painless too – there’s street parking that doesn’t cost a fortune, and the hotel staff knows which spots are actually available versus the ones that look free but will get you towed. That’s the kind of local knowledge that matters when you’re trying to navigate an unfamiliar city with a rental car.
The whole experience felt refreshingly unpretentious. This isn’t trying to be a boutique experience or compete with the chain hotels near the Hauptbahnhof – it’s just a solid, well-run place where you can base yourself while exploring one of Germany’s most underrated cities. And at the end of long days wandering Leipzig’s surprisingly extensive park system or getting lost in the Spinnerei art district, that’s exactly what you want.
Early hotels booking in Leipzig requires advance planning during peak cultural seasons when visitors flock to see the city’s remarkable musical venues and historical sites.

Everything was great!
What could be improved: Nothing to complainWas a very good stay – Daniel from Panama – 23 March 2025 (8/10)
Very good food and friendly staff
What could be improved: A little less street noise would have made the stay even better. But during sleeping hours (22.00-7.00) it was quiet enough to sleep well.Superb – Jitka from Czech Republic – 19 January 2025 (9/10)
Excellent location for my purposes. Easy connection from the main station and the city center. Tram and S-bahn stop in front of the hotel. Excellent breakfast and peaceful stay.

Location was good.
It had parking.
What could be improved: The rooms were very small and the beds were okay but not great.
There were stairs so don’t expect to be able to use your heavy luggage .Convenient & Comfortable – Diana from United States – 19 September 2024 (9/10)
Great location, right across the street from tram stop, so quick easy access to Central Leipzig. Good breakfast, comfortable bed & room. Great front desk staff, helpful & pleasant. Bonus: free parking in lot owned by hotel. However not enough for every room & first come, first served. We were lucky to get a spot, so we kept our car there & explored Leipzig on their transit system. Would stay again if back in Leipzig!
What could be improved: Nothing I can think of, thank you for a great stay!Value for money – Sushim from India – 19 June 2024 (9/10)
Very friendly and helpful staff
Very good – Giorgia from Australia – 27 February 2024 (8/10)
The room was very nice and clean, the hotel is situate close to the city center and in the price was also included a rich breakfast buffet.
Superb – Nikolaos from Germany – 14 February 2024 (9/10)
The hotel is located next to the university clinics, making it ideal for those who have any kind of professional business there. Moreover, it is next to the S-Bahn station, just 10 minutes by train from the central train station. The rooms facing the backyard are quiet.
What could be improved: The lift is very slow, but at least it works.
