So I stumbled across Bastians Herberge during one of those “let’s just book something decent in Leipzig” moments, and honestly? Best accidental discovery I’ve made in ages. This place sits right on Jahnallee in Mitte – which, if you know Leipzig at all, means you’re basically in the sweet spot where everything actually happens. I mean, you can walk to the old town center in maybe fifteen minutes, but you’re not dealing with all the tourist chaos right outside your window.

The building itself has this understated charm that grows on you. It’s not trying to be some flashy boutique hotel, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the whole setup. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed – like someone actually considered how a person moves through a space instead of just cramming in as much stuff as possible. The beds are proper comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), plus they’ve got these blackout curtains that actually work, which is huge if you’re dealing with jet lag or just want to sleep past sunrise. What really got me though was the attention to small details – good lighting for reading, enough outlets where you need them, and bathroom fixtures that don’t feel like an afterthought.

Location-wise, you’re golden here. There’s this great little bakery just down the street where locals grab their morning coffee – none of that overpriced hotel breakfast situation if you don’t want it. The tram connections are solid too, so getting around Leipzig is pretty effortless. I walked to the Gewandhaus one evening for a concert, and it was this pleasant stroll through neighborhoods that felt alive, you know? Not sterile or overly touristy. Parking was surprisingly manageable for a city center spot, though I’d recommend checking with them first if you’re driving. The staff genuinely seem to know their city well – I asked about finding some specific vinyl records (Leipzig has an amazing music scene), and the guy at reception knew exactly where to send me. That kind of local knowledge makes such a difference when you’re somewhere new. The whole experience just felt… easy, I guess? Like staying at a well-run place where people care about what they’re doing without making a big show of it.

  From the moment we arrived the host Mr Bastians made us feel like we were friends coming for a visit . A proud citizen of Leipzig who loves his city and helped us to enjoy our stay more by telling us what to look out for as we toured the city. The accommodation has loads of books and games for the family , it feels like you are staying in a home not an empty apartment . Great location and lovely apartment
