Studio 44 Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Studio 44? It’s not actually one building – they’ve got these different apartments scattered around Mitte, which honestly works out better than I expected. I mean, you’re basically living like a local for a few days instead of being stuck in some cookie-cutter hotel lobby with tourists asking where the nearest McDonald’s is.

The whole setup feels more authentic than most places you’ll find in Leipzig’s city center. Each apartment has its own personality (mine had these great high ceilings and original hardwood that creaked just enough to remind you you’re in a building with some history), and you’re literally walking distance from everything that matters. I’m talking two minutes to Augustusplatz, maybe five to the old market square where you can grab coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine. The Thomaskirche is right there too – you can actually hear the bells in the morning, which sounds cheesy but it’s honestly pretty nice when you’re having breakfast by the window.

What I really appreciated was how they handle the whole apartment thing. Check-in was smooth, they give you actual keys (not those plastic cards that stop working every time you look at them wrong), and then you’re basically set free to do your own thing. The kitchenettes aren’t huge but they’re functional – perfect if you want to grab some bread and cheese from the market and skip overpriced room service. Plus, having your own space means you can spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase for a week. The Wi-Fi actually works everywhere, which… let’s be honest, that’s not always a given in older European buildings.

Street noise isn’t really an issue in most of their locations – Mitte gets busy during the day but it calms down at night, unlike some of the areas closer to the nightlife districts where you’ll hear people stumbling home until 3 AM. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving (the streets around there are narrow and locals know all the good spots), but honestly, you won’t need a car anyway. Everything’s walkable, and if you want to venture out to Plagwitz or the lakes, the tram system is pretty reliable.

The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s not fancy in that sterile luxury hotel way, but it delivers on what actually matters when you’re exploring a city. Clean, comfortable, well-located, and the staff seems to know Leipzig well enough to point you toward the good restaurants instead of the obvious tourist traps. I ended up extending my stay an extra night because, well, it just felt comfortable. Sometimes that’s worth more than marble bathrooms and a concierge in a fancy uniform.

Reviews of Studio 44

  • Very good option to stay in Leipzig – Kerstin from Germany – 15 May 2025 (9/10)

Very quiet appartement, nice location, tram only minutes away

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Excellent property! – Jorge from Germany – 21 April 2025 (9/10)

This property rental exceeded our expectations.
    I recommend it without reservation.
    Host is super gentle.

What could be improved: I just found this property a bit pricy. I paid more than € 300 for two nights in April which is not even high season.

  • Wonderful! – Isabelle from Germany – 8 December 2024 (10/10)

Close to the city center and public transport. Lovely furnishings, a lot of storage space. Very clean. The building is very retro-clique. All in all a wonderful apartment!

What could be improved: The pillow mattress combination really isn’t good. That’s was the only downside, we didn’t sleep well. Not because it was loud but because the bed was really uncomfortable. Also, if you are sensitive to light in the morning, bring a sleeping mask. There are only sheer curtains.

  • Really convenient location in a wonderful city. Would recommend! – Michael from United Kingdom – 8 July 2024 (10/10)

There was an excellent supermarket across the road which sold fresh rolls, cheese and meats for breakfast. Lovely balcony for the two of us to sit and take breakfast. Really liked having a kettle to make a cup of tea! In fact the kitchen was so well equipped my husband was dropping hints that I should be making the dinner instead of going to a restaurant!

    What could be improved: Nothing!

  • Superb – Veronika from Germany – 27 May 2024 (9/10)

The location is absolutely the best of the best because everything is very close to the apartment but it's quite enough to have proper rest. The flat isn't big but has everything you need and is beautiful. The floor is absolutely gorgeous. Communication with the manager was nice, picking up the keys was also easy. We enjoyed it and we would stay there again!

What could be improved: There is a scale before the elevator – it's not a problem if you have somebody to help with a baby stroller, it's just good to know about it

  • Perfect apartment – Jevahghn from Germany – 11 December 2023 (10/10)

Perfect everything inside bueatyful look great

  • Very comfortable and specious – Xiaofu from United States – 24 November 2023 (10/10)

It is very clean, spacious, with all the essential equipment in the kitchen, including a dish washer, free coffee and herbal tea. They even have a washing machine in the spacious bathroom! I am a solo traveler, but the apartment can easily and comfortably fit 2-3 people. The apartment is conveniently located. I could easily walk to major sites in the city. When I arrived in Leipzig, I went to another Studio 44 in a different location. When I called via WhatsApp, immediately there was a gentleman picked up my call. He told me he was the assistant and he kindly provided me with the direction to Studio 44 Paul. I couldn’t be happier with the lodging and highly recommend it to other fellow travelers

    What could be improved: None!

  • Nice appartment close to city centre. – David from United Kingdom – 9 November 2023 (8/10)

Relatively close to city centre. Nice apartment with everything you could need, including a washing machine/dryer, which was unexpected.

What could be improved: The key collection cafe was some distance from the appartment which was not easy with luggage.

  • Beautiful Apartment in Leipzig. – Oliver from Ireland – 28 June 2023 (10/10)

Everything!! This is a beautiful apartment in Leipzig with everything you need for a great, comfortable and enjoyable stay. Marc is contactable, there for any questions and all your needs. He was brilliant!! Thanks again for everything and see you again soon!!

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • 2 days in very nice accommodation – Nechamah from Israel – 20 June 2023 (10/10)

The studio itself was perfect. It was spacious and in a good, quiet location very near a bakery (for fresh bread in the morning) and a supermarket.

What could be improved: We arrived in Leipzig earlier in the day and due to the host not having facilities for us to leave our luggage before the official check-in time we left it at the station. Later we returned to the station to pick it up, had to go to a cafe to pick up the keys and then on to the studio. This was quite a walk (especially with luggage)…
