Staycity Aparthotels Leipzig City Centre Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Staycity Aparthotels? The moment you walk out the front door, you’re literally staring at the opera house across Augustusplatz. I mean, when they say city center, they actually mean it – you’re basically standing in Leipzig’s living room. The building itself feels surprisingly modern against all that historic architecture, but honestly, it works.

The aparthotel concept here is pretty clever. Your room is more like a compact apartment with a proper kitchenette (not just a mini-fridge and coffee maker situation). The plates and glasses actually match, which sounds silly but you’d be amazed how many places get that wrong. I loved being able to grab fresh bread from the bakery on Grimmaische Straße – just a two-minute walk – and actually have a decent breakfast without paying hotel prices. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re smartly designed with good storage space, and the beds are genuinely comfortable. Some of the higher floors have views toward the Gewandhaus, which is pretty special if you’re into that sort of thing.

What really sold me on this place was how easy everything became once you’re settled in. Tram stops are right there on Augustusplatz – you can get anywhere in Leipzig without thinking twice about it. The old town spreads out in every direction, so you’ll find yourself wandering down cobblestone streets toward the Thomaskirche or popping into those quirky galleries in the Spinnerei district (catch the 70 bus, takes maybe fifteen minutes). The neighborhood gets lively in the evenings, especially around the university area, but the rooms are well-insulated so it never felt disruptive. Actually, I kind of enjoyed the energy – there’s something infectious about a city that feels genuinely lived-in rather than just tourist-focused. The front desk staff seemed to actually know Leipzig well, not just the standard tourist spots, which made a difference when I was trying to find good local restaurants beyond the obvious choices. Parking can be tricky if you’re driving – there’s a garage nearby but it fills up during events at the Gewandhaus or opera. The whole experience felt less like staying at a hotel and more like temporarily living somewhere interesting, which I suppose is exactly what they’re going for.

  • Value for money with a lot space – Candy from Denmark – 29 July 2025 (8/10)

The apartment type of room we booked is really spacious and well equipped with everything we needed.
The price is also very reasonable and affordable.
The breakfast we paid (euro 19) was quite ok. Choice of food is adequate, with the bonus of free choice of how the egg to be cooked. It tasted really good.

What could be improved: The reception is at 6th floor where was a bit hard to figure it out if you were there for the first time.
The main entrance is also a bit tricky to locate if you dont pay too much attention on it.

What could be improved: Parking below had bad reviews and was expensive, but worked out fine with EasyPark app.

What could be improved: The building and interior design is not the most charming

  • The hotel was good. We arrived for the Robbie Williams concert and it was nice to see how prepared the hotel was. The ro – Evgeniia from Czech Republic – 24 July 2025 (10/10)
