Radisson Blu Hotel Leipzig Overview
You know what struck me first about the Radisson Blu Leipzig? The building itself – it’s this sleek, modern tower that somehow doesn’t clash with the historic charm around Augustusplatz. I mean, you’re literally steps from the Opera House and St. Nicholas Church (where those famous Monday demonstrations started back in ’89), but the hotel feels refreshingly contemporary without being cold or sterile.
The location is honestly hard to beat if you want to actually experience Leipzig rather than just pass through it. Augustusplatz is essentially the city’s living room – there’s always something happening, from street musicians to seasonal markets. The tram connections right outside make it ridiculously easy to get anywhere, though I found myself walking most places since the pedestrian zone starts basically at the hotel’s front door. Fair warning though – if you’re a super light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the square. It’s not exactly party-central, but there’s definitely urban energy, especially on weekends when the students are out.
What really won me over was how the staff seemed to actually know Leipzig, not just recite tourist brochures. The concierge pointed me toward Auerbachs Keller (yeah, the Faust connection is real) but also mentioned this little café on Barfußgässchen that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean lines, good beds, decent bathrooms. Nothing that’ll blow your mind, but everything works properly, which honestly matters more when you’re trying to recharge between exploring the Spinnerei art district and wandering through Clara-Zetkin Park. The breakfast was surprisingly local-focused too – proper German bread and regional specialties alongside the usual international spread.
I stayed there during the spring when the Bach Festival was happening, so the area was buzzing more than usual. Even then, the hotel felt like a calm refuge when I needed it. The 8.3 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers exactly what most travelers actually need: comfort, location, and staff who care about your experience. Plus, parking in that area can be a nightmare, but they’ve got it sorted if you’re driving.

Radisson Blu-Leipzig was located perfectly. We were able to walk or get transportation to places while there. I think the staff could use some training on customer service. There was a woman/server in the Lounge that went out of her way to be pleasant and personable. I found myself hoping that she would be working the times we were in the lounge 🥴
