First Impressions

Walking up to Pension am Stern, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical chain hotel — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. This four-star guesthouse sits quietly on Bornaische Straße in the Lößnig district, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole setup. The building has that solid German charm without trying too hard, you know? It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than just passing through another anonymous hotel lobby.

Here’s what I really appreciate about this location — you’re in Leipzig but not drowning in tourist crowds. Lößnig is one of those neighborhoods that locals actually live in, which means you’ll find proper bakeries and corner cafés instead of souvenir shops. The tram connections into the city center are actually pretty solid (I mean, this is Germany after all), so you can be in the historic Altstadt in about 15 minutes when you want to do the sightseeing thing. But when you come back in the evening, you’re in a quieter residential area where you can actually hear yourself think.

Your Room

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run German pension — clean, functional, and thoughtfully arranged. Nothing flashy, but everything works properly and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase without playing Tetris with your belongings. The beds are firm (which some people love, others… well, you know how it is), and the windows open properly for fresh air — something I always check because hotel air conditioning can be hit or miss. What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re still in a city of half a million people.

Morning Fuel

The breakfast situation here is honestly one of the highlights. They’ve got this buffet setup that covers all the bases — continental options if you’re the coffee-and-pastry type, but also proper vegetarian choices that go beyond sad lettuce leaves. I found myself looking forward to the morning spread, which doesn’t always happen at smaller places like this. The coffee is decent (not spectacular, but definitely drinkable), and there’s usually fresh bread that actually tastes like bread rather than cardboard. You can tell they put thought into it rather than just throwing together whatever’s cheapest.

Why Guests Love It

What really comes through in talking to other guests is how this place just works for couples looking for a solid base in Leipzig. There’s something about the scale and atmosphere that feels right for two people exploring the city together — not too big that you feel lost, not so small that you’re tripping over other guests. The staff seems to get that balance too; they’re helpful when you need them but don’t hover. Plus, with a 7.8 rating, you’re looking at a place that consistently delivers what it promises without any nasty surprises. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a trip.

  What could be improved: Too loud. You can hear the train on the street every time it passes. And our room was very close to the staircase so we could hear everyone walking on it.
  As there is no reception, it took time to receive an extra blanket and pillow.. it was winter time and the Blanket was very thin.

  Everything was clean, very nice staff, tram station is at pension and you are very fast in the centre of Leipzig. 🙂
  
  What could be improved: Little bit noisy tram could be maybe bad for small kids, but nothing that couldnt be survived 🙂

  Very nice brand new clean room, comfy beds, not a bad location (free parking, 15-20 min tram to the city center, grocery store across the street). Very good value.
  
  What could be improved: The room was missing a few fairly fundamental things like a hand soap. The reception was almost always closed (luckily it was open the morning of the check out) and they basically require a cash payment, which with a closed reception and not exactly rounded rates is quite tricky.

  Pension am Stern was exactly what I needed for one night stay in Leipzig . Small, but cosy room. It was warm and very clean. Easy access to a city centre with Tram 11. Very good value of money.
  
  What could be improved: A noise from the street could be heard if the window is open. Not too much , but it could be nice to know.

  Perfect location for visiting the citycenter or Agrapark. Nearby a supermarket and small restaurants. Nice, spacious room and comfortable beds. The dogs were also welcome.
  
  What could be improved: If you're a light sleeper, the noise from the road in front of the hotel could disturb your sleep.
