PauliDrei Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to PauliDrei on Paulinerweg – I mean, it’s tucked away in this quiet residential stretch that most tourists probably walk right past. But honestly, that turned out to be exactly what made it special. The building itself has this understated charm that fits perfectly with the tree-lined street, and you can tell someone actually cares about the place from the moment you walk in.

The thing about staying here is that you’re genuinely in a Leipzig neighborhood, not some tourist bubble. I’d wake up to the sound of locals heading to work instead of tour groups, which was actually pretty refreshing. The nearby tram connections are solid – you can get to the city center in about fifteen minutes, but you’re also close enough to walk if the weather’s decent. What I really appreciated was being near some of the local spots that aren’t in every guidebook. There’s this little bakery just down the street where the staff definitely doesn’t speak English, but their morning pastries are worth the awkward pointing and smiling.

The rooms themselves? Look, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or anything fancy, but everything works and it’s genuinely clean. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in this price range), and the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes like some places I’ve stayed. What surprised me was how quiet it stays at night – even though you’re in the city, the residential location means you’re not dealing with street noise or people stumbling back from bars at 2 AM. The staff really knows their stuff too, not just the tourist attractions but practical things like where to find a pharmacy or which grocery stores stay open late. I had this issue with my phone plan not working properly, and the front desk guy actually helped me sort it out instead of just shrugging and saying “sorry.”

The breakfast situation is pretty solid – nothing fancy, but they’ve got proper coffee and local options alongside the typical hotel spread. I mean, you’re not going to Instagram your plate, but you’ll leave full and ready for the day. One small thing that stood out was how they handle check-in during busy periods. I arrived during some festival weekend when half of Leipzig seemed booked up, but they had my room ready early and didn’t make me wait around with my luggage.

Honestly, the 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be something it’s not – just a well-run place that gets the basics right and adds those little touches that make you feel like you picked well. If you’re the type who wants to stay somewhere that feels more like visiting Leipzig rather than just sleeping in it, this place delivers. Plus, let’s be real, finding anywhere decent in this city that doesn’t cost a fortune is getting harder these days.

Hotel in Leipzig booking should be done early, especially during Bach Festival season when the city hosts internationally acclaimed classical music performances.

Reviews of PauliDrei

  • Tolle Unterkunft mit Wohlfühlatmosphäre – Tina from Germany – 13 July 2025 (10/10)

  • Exceptional – Hektor from Germany – 11 July 2025 (10/10)

    Quasi ohne Gepäck wohnen.

What could be improved: Zu kurzer Aufenthalt.

  • To be repeated!!!! – Heike from Switzerland – 21 April 2025 (10/10)

Beautifully taken care of and in a peaceful location.

  • For us too much of everything, but if you like that, it's wonderful. – Willem from Austria – 11 March 2025 (5/10)

We enjoyed the positive things, like the reception, the site, the daylight, the space, the touristical information, in fact, nearly everything, but …

What could be improved: … there was too much of everything. So much that it wasn't possible to get it clean enough. Most materials and objects were not possible to clean. Some kitchen tools were dirty from use, we had to deal with hair on the floor and on the sofa cushions. Lots of left over products from other guests. Dust on surfaces. Many people will like the good taste of these hosts and the cosiness of this interior, but we prefer cleanliness in a place which is used by others. And for a objective review we have to mention this.

  • Not at the level other reviewers suggest – Michal from Czech Republic – 25 December 2024 (5/10)

Generally standard apartment. Kitchen was very well equipped. Nice furniture and had a cozy home vibe.

What could be improved: The entrance door was very hard to open. You have to enter the code, turn the knob to the left and at the same time push the door towards you (the last move missing in the instructions). They have parking instructions in the apartment instead of providing you with them upfront so we had to go out again and repark the car. What we disliked the most was that the apartment was relatively cold. The temperature on the thermostat was capped at 20,5 degrees. Hot and cold water was switched in the bathroom. Bed had a very bad spring mattress and the pillows were bad as well. Quite an uncomfortable sleeping experience.
If the owners improved all of these points, the accommodation would be quite good but I cannot rate it better at this state.

  • Exceptional – Stefan from Romania – 8 December 2024 (10/10)

We had a wonderful stay! The room was exceptionally well-equipped, including a convenient mini-kitchenette that made our visit even more comfortable. The owners were incredibly kind and attentive, going above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. The property is located in a quiet and peaceful area, perfect for a relaxing getaway. Highly recommended!

  • A fabulous apartment – Lenny from United Kingdom – 5 December 2024 (10/10)

An absolutely fab apartment. If it seems just a tiny bit cluttered, it's only because the hosts tried to cater for your every wish on the comfort side. Location-wise, it really depends on what you are after. The apartment is just a stone throw from the Battle of the Nations monument. While it's not the centre of Leipzig, a tram station is just across the road, with the tram line going straight to the city. Five stars.

  • Beautiful apartment in Leipzig! – Aleksandra from Poland – 21 October 2024 (10/10)

The apartment is extremely comfortable and clean situated in a nice location in Leipzig. There’s literally everything what you need. The owners are friendly and helpful. I can really recommend this beautiful place!!

  • Superb – Dunn from Australia – 27 September 2024 (9/10)

the owners have gone out of their way to provide everything you could possibly require.

  • Exceptional – Misiaszek from Poland – 28 July 2024 (10/10)

Great place. Very clean apartment. Equipped with all the necessary things. Very nice green garden where you can relax. Very comfortable bed. Lots of games for children. A place with a nice atmosphere. You can see the owners' great commitment to this place. We felt very well taken care of. The owners care about their guests. We will definitely come back there. I recommend it

What could be improved: Everything's fine
