Leipzig Residenz City-Center Apartments Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Leipzig, and honestly? The Leipzig Residenz City-Center Apartments on Petersstraße is one of those finds that makes you want to keep it secret. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Mitte – you can walk to the Nikolaikirche in about three minutes, and the whole Barfußgässchen dining scene is right there when you step out the door.
What got me first was how they’ve managed to make these apartments feel genuinely luxurious without that sterile hotel chain vibe. The spaces are properly big (which, if you’ve been apartment hunting in German city centers, you know is rare), and someone clearly thought about how people actually live and travel. The kitchens aren’t those sad little hotel kitchenettes – they’re actual functional spaces where you could cook a real meal if you wanted to. Though honestly, with Auerbachs Keller practically around the corner, why would you? The beds are the kind you sink into after walking around Leipzig’s cobblestones all day, and the bathrooms… well, let’s just say they understand water pressure here in a way that many German accommodations still don’t.
Here’s what I really appreciated – the soundproofing is excellent. Petersstraße can get a bit lively, especially on weekends when people are heading to and from the Marktplatz, but once you’re inside, it’s properly quiet. The staff actually knows Leipzig too, not just the tourist highlights but practical stuff like where to find a good bakery early in the morning (there’s a fantastic one on Grimmaische Straße, by the way) or which tram lines to avoid during rush hour. Parking can be tricky in this part of town – I mean, it’s medieval streets trying to handle modern traffic – but they’ve sorted that out with nearby options that won’t break the bank. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that “we need seventeen forms of ID and your firstborn child” nonsense. You know what really sealed it for me though? Those little touches that show someone’s paying attention – proper coffee in the units, not instant packets, and windows that actually open wide so you can get that fresh air flowing through. After spending time here, going back to cramped hotel rooms feels almost claustrophobic.

Great stay near Thomaskirche! – Karen from United States – 9 May 2024 (9/10)
Great space in the heart of town. Well equipped kitchen. Very clean and pretty!
What could be improved: It’s worth noting that in order to get the transponder for the elevator, you have to climb stairs to the fourth floor. While it’s just one time, it could be a problem for someone with disabilities.GRE – Anonymous from United States – 7 October 2023 (9/10)
