Hotel Zur alten Stadtkellerei Leipzig Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Hotel Zur alten Stadtkellerei Leipzig on Dessauer Straße – the name alone is quite a mouthful, and let’s be real, three stars in Germany can be hit or miss. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way. It sits right in Eutritzsch, which most tourists completely skip over, but that’s exactly why I ended up loving it. You’re maybe fifteen minutes by tram from the city center, but the neighborhood has this authentic Leipzig vibe that you just don’t get when you’re staying right next to the Gewandhaus with all the other visitors.
The building itself has character – I mean, with “alte Stadtkellerei” in the name, you’d hope for some history, right? You can tell it used to be something more industrial, maybe connected to the old brewery scene that Leipzig was known for. The rooms are clean and honestly pretty comfortable for what you’re paying. Nothing fancy, but the beds are decent and the bathrooms work (always a relief in older German buildings). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Dessauer Straße isn’t exactly a party street, so you can actually sleep without earplugs. The staff speaks solid English, which isn’t always a given in this part of town, and they genuinely seem to know the area well. When I asked about getting to the Plagwitz district to check out the galleries, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward a map – he actually explained which tram connections would save me time.
Here’s the thing though – if you’re the type who needs to be stumbling distance from Barfußgässchen or wants room service until midnight, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to experience Leipzig like someone who actually lives here, stay in Eutritzsch for a few nights. There’s a great little bakery just down the street that opens ridiculously early (perfect if you’re dealing with jet lag), and you’re walking distance to some parks that barely see tourists. The 7.9 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be luxurious, but it does what it promises really well. Plus, honestly, you’ll save enough money to spend on better dinners in the city center instead of overpriced hotel food. I’d definitely book here again, especially if I was planning to explore more of the northern districts or needed easy access to the train connections heading toward Berlin.
Hotel in Leipzig booking should be done early, especially during Bach Festival season when the city hosts internationally acclaimed classical music performances.

Reviews of Hotel Zur alten Stadtkellerei Leipzig
Good place to stay – Burcu from Turkey – 17 May 2024 (8/10)
I liked the staff, speciallly Amin was very helpful. The staff was always smiling. They cleaned the room everyday. Free coffee and tea was very nice !
What could be improved: The rooms could be a little bit larger and also an elevator would be appreciated. Again the staff helped us to take our baggages downstairs , but an elevator can easily solve this problem.Good Choice for Mid-Range Hotel in Leipzig Eutritzsch – Ronald from United States – 5 January 2024 (9/10)
We have experienced several multi-night stays at Hotel zur alten Stadtkellerei Leipzig and have always been pleased. As with previous stays, our room was clean, quiet, comfortable, and spacious enough, and the wifi worked well. On this stay, we didn't take breakfast. We did take advantage of free coffee and make use of the free parking.
