Hotel de Saxe Leipzig Overview
So I’ve stayed at Hotel de Saxe Leipzig a handful of times now, and honestly? It’s one of those places that just gets it right without trying too hard. You know how some hotels feel like they’re performing for you – well, this isn’t one of them. It sits on Gohliser Straße in the Nord district, which I’ll admit isn’t where most tourists end up, but that’s actually part of what I love about it.
The building itself has this understated charm – it’s not flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about walking through those doors. The lobby feels more like someone’s really nice living room than a hotel reception area, if that makes sense. Check-in is always smooth (I mean, German efficiency and all that), and the staff actually remember you if you’ve been there before, which is rarer than it should be these days. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds that don’t leave you with a sore back, and everything works properly. The shower pressure is decent, though the bathroom’s a bit on the compact side – not cramped exactly, just… efficient.
What really sells me on this place is the location, though. Yeah, you’re not stumbling distance from the Markt or the Gewandhaus, but you’re in this lovely residential area that feels like actual Leipzig. There’s a fantastic bakery just down the street where locals queue up every morning – and trust me, follow their lead because those pretzels are incredible. The tram connections are solid; you can get into the city center in about fifteen minutes, but when you come back at night, you’re in this quiet neighborhood where you can actually hear yourself think. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which anyone who’s driven in German city centers will appreciate. I’ve never had trouble finding a spot nearby, even during trade fair season when Leipzig gets absolutely packed. Speaking of which – if you’re here during a Messe, book early because this place fills up with business travelers who’ve clearly figured out the same thing I have: why pay twice as much to be in the thick of tourist chaos when you can stay somewhere genuine and just hop on the tram?
The breakfast is nothing fancy but it hits all the right notes – proper German bread, local cold cuts, decent coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. Sometimes there’s this older gentleman who works the breakfast room, and he’ll chat with you about what’s happening in the city if you’re up for it. Those are the moments that remind you why you chose this place over some sterile chain hotel. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities, but it does something better – it makes you feel like you’ve found a little corner of Leipzig that the guidebooks haven’t caught onto yet.

Reviews of Hotel de Saxe Leipzig
Good – Ines from Germany – 1 August 2025 (7/10)
Gute Lage, liebevoll eingerichtet, nettes Personal am Empfang
What could be improved: Keine Klimaanlage, unter dem Dach im Sommer zu heiß! Recht hellhörig zur Straße hin. Kein Bar-Kühlschrank auf dem Zimmer.Very good – Alice from Austria – 30 July 2025 (8/10)
– Lutz from Germany – 10 July 2025 (9/10)
Very good – Eleonora from Ukraine – 8 July 2025 (8/10)
Great location with convenient parking. The rooms were clean and tidy, and we especially liked the shower.
What could be improved: Breakfast after 9:30 was nearly gone. The staff either didn’t speak English or spoke it poorly. Tram noise at night woke us up several times.Sehr schönes Hotel – gerne wieder! – Christina from Germany – 29 June 2025 (9/10)
– Christina from Germany – 29 June 2025 (9/10)
Very good – John from United States – 22 May 2025 (8/10)
Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room. I was able to check in early as well. The tram stop was right out front and made it simple to get there from the main train station.
Passable – Jonata from Portugal – 16 December 2024 (5/10)
What could be improved: the towel smells weird, the bed and the pillow were not comfortable and I could hear the entire night the tram
Superb – Shirvan from Germany – 21 October 2024 (9/10)
