Hotel Alt-Connewitz Overview
You know what? I walked past Hotel Alt-Connewitz about a dozen times before I actually stayed there, and honestly, I’m kind of glad I finally gave it a shot. It’s tucked away on Meusdorferstr in the Süd district – not exactly where tourists usually end up, but that’s sort of the point. This is proper Leipzig, where you’ll hear more German than English and the coffee shops actually know how to pull a decent espresso.
The hotel itself is this converted building that feels authentically local without trying too hard. I mean, it’s a solid 3-star place, nothing fancy, but the 8.5 rating makes sense once you’re there. The rooms are clean and surprisingly quiet considering you’re in the city – though I’d still pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper, because Leipzig has this way of coming alive around 11 PM. What I really appreciated was the breakfast setup; they do this thing with local breads and jams that you won’t find at the chain hotels downtown. Plus, the staff actually seemed to care when I asked about getting around the city, not just the scripted “there’s a map at reception” response you usually get.
Here’s the thing about staying in Connewitz – you’re maybe 15 minutes by tram from the main tourist stuff (the old town, Bach museum, all that), but you’re right in the middle of one of Leipzig’s most interesting neighborhoods. There’s this incredible Vietnamese place literally two blocks away that locals line up for, and honestly, some of the best street art I’ve seen outside of Berlin is just wandering distance from the hotel. The area gets pretty lively on weekends – students, artists, that whole scene – so if you’re looking for sanitized quiet, maybe book elsewhere. But if you want to actually experience how Leipzig feels when it’s not performing for tourists, this is your spot. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (typical for German cities), but there’s usually something within a block or two if you’re patient.
To book hotel in Leipzig during the famous Leipzig Book Fair season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts literary enthusiasts and music lovers from around the world.

ANY TIME AGAIN, Top!Superb – Jan from Czech Republic – 31 October 2024 (9/10)
This hotel is an archive gem. Ok, it is little bit old and you can see it everywhere… But the managers if the hotel knows this very very well and they try to get the very best of this (old) hotel. Reception is extremely helpful, rooms are spotless clean, breakfast is above average, there is a great automat for drinks etc… The result is – you don´t mind at all that the hotel is old, because you feel so happy there…
What could be improved: The walls are a bit thin… There are few spots on the wall… but never mind!Lovely place for a short one night stay. – Debbie from United States – 29 October 2024 (10/10)
The manager at this hotel was outstanding. She met us and showed us around the property, making sure we had everything we needed. Room was spacious with a nice view of the city. Bathroom was very clean and the shower pressure was excellent. Included breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. Breakfast staff was very friendly and efficient.
What could be improved: The location was a little worrisome at first. Loses of graffiti on so many buildings but walking to dinner in the evening and to the pharmacy the next morning we felt just fine. Many friendly people said hello.Exceptional – Lena_soulmate from Netherlands – 19 October 2024 (10/10)

Room was clean and nice, breakfast fresh and tasty.
Stuff very helpful.Superb – Izabela from United Kingdom – 11 August 2024 (9/10)
It was a stopover between Poland and UK. Only few minutes from our original route. We were travelling with two kids and a dog. Had a quadruple room, very comfortable with an adjoining room for the kids rather than a usual pullout sofa as in many family rooms. Safe parking space behind a locked gate, although we arrived around 8pm and took the last available parking space so you need to be lucky or prearrange it with the reception. If you are not planning to drive into the city and leave the car in the car park you will not need a green environmental badge (the city has an environmental zone which starts around 500m from the hotel). Very friendly and helpful hotel staff. Good breakfast included in the price. The hotel is close to many small cafes and restaurants which are open late, we were able to have a decent pizza with the kids in the evening. Would recommend it as a good resting break on a long car journey.
