Hochweis Overview

You know what struck me first about Hochweis? The fact that it’s tucked away on Täubchenweg – and I mean really tucked away. This little street in Leipzig’s Reudnitz-Thonberg district isn’t where you’d expect to find a solid 4-star spot, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. It’s on the second floor of this unassuming building, and when I first walked up those stairs, I wasn’t sure what I was getting into. The entrance is sort of understated in that distinctly German way – no flashy lobby, just quality done quietly.

What really won me over was how the place feels like it actually belongs in Leipzig rather than some cookie-cutter hotel that could be anywhere. The rooms have this clean, minimalist thing going on without feeling sterile, and the beds – I mean, German hotels generally nail the bedding situation, but these were particularly good. The neighborhood itself is residential and peaceful, which means you’ll sleep well (no drunk tourists stumbling around at 3 AM), but you’re still only about 15 minutes by tram to the Altstadt. There’s actually a decent Turkish place just around the corner that the front desk recommended, and they were right – sometimes local tips like that tell you everything about whether the staff actually cares.

I’ll be honest, the 8.9 rating makes sense once you spend a night or two there. It’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just doing everything well. The shower pressure was excellent (always a gamble in older European buildings), and they’ve clearly put thought into the details – good lighting for reading, enough outlets by the bed, that sort of thing. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle on the street, but that’s pretty much anywhere in Leipzig these days. If you’re the type who needs to be right in the thick of things, this might feel a bit removed, but if you want a genuine taste of how locals live while still having easy access to the city center, Hochweis hits that sweet spot perfectly.

  Wir hatten einen tollen Aufenthalt! In der Unterkunft gab es alles was wir brauchten und sogar einen Balkon, auf dem wir abends noch sitzen konnte. Wir waren schon das zweite mal hier, da es uns so gut gefallen hat. Die Lage ist auch sehr zentral, um Leipzig zu erkunden.

  Es war alles super und wie erwartet! Die Terrasse ist toll und insgesamt war unser Aufenthalt in der Wohnung sehr angenehm!
  
  What could be improved: Wir hatten keine Information darüber, wo wir die Schlüssel abholen sollen. Dank einer Rezension auf Booking wussten wir aber, dass wir sie im Laden nebenan bekommen. Eine Info vom Gastgeber wäre aber dennoch toll gewesen.

  Loved that it is a completely private apartment. Nice balcony to enjoy the evenings.
  The location is excellent. Within walking distance to many food places, Kaufland and tram stop.
  
  What could be improved: Very minor things that could make it even more exceptional are
  *More fans to help cool the apt down at night (I bought one to use and left with family there)
  *More and better quality towels. There were no small washcloths.
  *Firmer pillows and having a light sheet for use

  Schöne Wohnung, es war alles vorhanden und sehr hübsch eingerichtet. Die Vermieter sind sehr nett.
  
  What could be improved: Leider ist die Lage an der Straße etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig. Man konnte nicht mit offenem Fenster schlafen, da der Straßenlärm sehr störend wirkte.
