Hinterhaus Apartment No3 Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Hinterhaus Apartment No3? The name actually tells you everything you need to know – it’s literally in the back building (hinterhaus) behind the main street facade on Josephstraße, which means you get this unexpectedly quiet retreat right in Alt-West. I mean, Leipzig’s old western district isn’t exactly Times Square, but still – when you’re tucked away in that courtyard space, the city noise just sort of… disappears.
The apartment itself feels like staying at someone’s cool older cousin’s place, if that makes sense. It’s got that lived-in charm without being shabby, and honestly, the 8.7 rating makes total sense once you’re there. The owners clearly know their stuff – everything works properly (which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given with apartment rentals), and they’ve thought about the little things that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The kitchen’s properly equipped, not just for show, and the wifi doesn’t crap out every time someone in the building opens Netflix. Alt-West is having this moment right now – it’s where locals go when they want the authentic Leipzig vibe without the tourist crowds you get closer to the Markt. You’ve got proper neighborhood cafés within walking distance, and the whole area has this artsy, slightly bohemian feel that the city’s known for. Plus, being on Josephstraße means you’re well-connected to the rest of Leipzig without being stuck in some sterile business district.
What really sold me on this place, though, was the morning routine. You wake up, make coffee in an actual kitchen (not some sad hotel room setup), and you can sit by the window watching the courtyard come to life – neighbors heading to work, maybe some kids playing. It feels authentic in a way that’s hard to find when you’re traveling. The three-star rating might make you think it’s basic, but honestly? Sometimes basic done really well beats fancy done poorly. The bed’s comfortable, the shower has decent pressure, and there’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in for a few days. Just don’t expect a concierge or room service – this is more about having your own little Leipzig life for a while, which is exactly what some trips call for.
Exploring Leipzig offers visitors an unforgettable journey through Germany’s musical heart, from its historic St. Thomas Church to its vibrant cultural scene and peaceful revolution monuments.

Reviews of Hinterhaus Apartment No3
Gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis – Lutz from Germany – 16 May 2025 (8/10)
Großes bequemes Bett, ich habe sehr gut geschlafen.
Ich war dienstlich dort und konnte nicht viel mehr nutzen…
What could be improved: Es gab nur eine Badewanne ohne Duschvorhang, das finde ich unpraktisch…Superb – Susann from Germany – 24 March 2025 (9/10)
Ich habe es zwar nicht benutzt, aber es waren schon Kleinigkeiten vorhanden, wie Kaffee, Öl zum Braten oder backpapier.
Außerdem war alles komfortabel und hat reibungslos funktioniert.Very good – Viviana from Italy – 3 January 2025 (8/10)
Appartamento molto spazioso e pulito posizione vicino a vari locali e comoda al centro con mezzi di trasporto
Tolle Unterkunft für ein super Wochenende in Leipzig – Michael from Germany – 14 November 2024 (8/10)
Tolle Lage, bequem. Wir waren schon zum zweiten Mal da! Bestimmt bald wieder.
Exceptional – Vera from Israel – 24 September 2024 (10/10)
The apartment is really lovely, it has great character. The neighborhood is amazing with lots of cafes, bars, parks, and anything you need. Loved it! 10/10 would stay again.
What could be improved: The washing machine is not the best, the clothes came out soapy sometimes. Also there is no shower curtain.Superb – Elena from Germany – 14 May 2024 (9/10)
The apartment was very cozy and clean. Loved the atmosphere!
Perfect! – Nika from Germany – 21 February 2024 (10/10)
Wonderful apartment, cozy, very unusually decorated (in a good way). It was warm and very clean inside. The kitchen had everything you needed, even different spices and tea. At first it was a little difficult to find the entrance, but we called the owner and he answered very quickly and easily helped us figure everything out. Staying in this apartment was a very positive experience both for me and for the second guest, I would even say that it has a good atmosphere. Thanks!
We had a lovely stay, would much recommended 😉 – Magdalena from Germany – 11 December 2023 (8/10)
Clean, warm, well located (two tram stations nearby, Rewe a few minute walk from the place and a pub across the street). Bed and couches were beyond comfortable. Apartment was equipped in all the necessities.
What could be improved: Nothing not to like, however, since it’s a studio and the fridge and the bed aren’t that far apart, if someone has a light sleep it might be best to bring something to cancel the noise at night, as the fridge might get a tad loud at moments 🙂Great flat in interesting area. – Armando from Portugal – 10 November 2023 (9/10)
Location is great. Quiet place with everything needed.
What could be improved: Shower would need a curtain around the bathtub.Exceptional – Majid from Germany – 12 January 2023 (10/10)
