Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to 45 Josephstraße looking for this place, I almost turned around. The building looks pretty unassuming from the street, and finding the “Hinterhaus” (that’s the back building, for anyone wondering) took me a solid five minutes of wandering around. But here’s the thing about Leipzig’s Alt-West district – some of the best spots are tucked away like this, and once you climb those stairs to the second floor and turn left, you’re in for a pleasant surprise.

The apartment itself feels like staying at a friend’s place, if your friend happens to have really good taste and actually knows how to make a space comfortable. It’s got that lived-in charm without being cluttered – you know what I mean? The kind of place where you can spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re messing up someone’s perfect showroom. The windows are decent-sized, which matters more than you’d think in these older Leipzig buildings, and you get a nice view into the courtyard that’s surprisingly quiet given you’re basically in the heart of the neighborhood. I mean, you’ll hear some street noise during the day – it’s Josephstraße after all – but nothing that kept me awake at night.

What I really appreciated was how the owners clearly get what travelers actually need. The kitchen setup is proper functional (not just for show), the wifi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and there’s enough storage space that you’re not living out of your suitcase the whole time. Plus, and this is crucial if you’re planning to explore Leipzig properly, you’re walking distance from some genuinely great spots. The Plagwitz area with all its galleries and cafes is maybe fifteen minutes on foot, and getting to the city center is dead easy – either walk along Karl-Liebknecht-Straße or hop on the tram. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this neighborhood, but honestly, you probably won’t need a car anyway.

The whole experience feels refreshingly unpretentious, which seems to be Alt-West’s thing in general. You’re not getting marble bathrooms or a concierge, but you are getting a genuinely comfortable base for exploring one of Germany’s most interesting cities. The check-in was straightforward – no awkward key handoffs or complicated instructions – and when I had a question about the heating (it was October, getting chilly), I got a response within an hour. That 8.6 rating makes total sense to me; it’s the kind of place that doesn’t try too hard but gets the important stuff right, and in a city like Leipzig where you want to spend your time wandering the streets and discovering things, that’s exactly what you need.

  The apartment is one space for kitchen, lounge and bedroom, but has a good size. It was clean and has a big bathroom. The location is easily connected with tram 3 and is near pubs and bakery. It is quiet and good for staying.
  
  What could be improved: Some improvements could be make in things that do not work. For example, the window next to the sink could be better shaded and shades need replacement. The other window is fine.

  Ich war positiv überrascht wie ruhig es sein kann in dieser Gegend. Ich konnte mich nach der Arbeit super erholen und mich super entspannen.
  
  What could be improved: Die Parksituation mit einem Transporter ist leider schrecklich. Für Handwerker mit größeren Autos eher ungeeignet.

  Habe bei der Ankunft kurz den Vermieter angerufen und er hat mir erklärt, was ich tun soll, um in die Wohnung zu kommen.
  Ich habs gemacht und es hat auf Anhieb funktioniert. Es gab da keine Probleme und werde, wenn ich mal wieder nach Leipzig fahre, gerne die Unterkunft wieder buchen.
  War mit der Wohnung sehr zufrieden. Zwei Kleinigkeiten, die mir aufgefallen sind, habe ich dem Vermieter mitgeteilt.
  Es war ein richtig schöner, wenn auch kurzer Aufenthalt.

  Die Wohnung ist gut gelegen und gemütlich eingerichtet. Alles war sauber und unkompliziert sowie gut ausgestattet. Wir haben uns sehr schnell wohlgefühlt und uns gerne Tee und Kaffee gekocht. Wenn wir nochmal nach Leipzig fahren, kommen wir sehr gerne wieder!
  
  What could be improved: Leider gab es nur ein Handtuch für zwei Personen. Dafür waren im Bett zwei Bettdecken, wo wir uns lieber eine Große zum Teilen gewünscht hätten. Der TV hängt etwas schief.
