Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Gemütliche Wohnung” in the name, I thought it might be one of those overly cute places that tries too hard. But this little spot on Mariannenstraße actually lives up to the cozy promise, and the terrace? Yeah, that’s the real selling point here.

The location in Volkmarsdorf is what I’d call Leipzig’s sweet spot – you’re not stuck in the touristy chaos around Augustusplatz, but you’re not exactly in the middle of nowhere either. It’s about a 15-minute tram ride to get into the proper city center, which honestly isn’t bad at all. What I really appreciated was how quiet Mariannenstraße gets in the evenings – you know how some city streets just never settle down? This one actually does. The terrace faces away from the main street noise, so you can sit out there with your morning coffee (or evening wine, I’m not judging) without feeling like you’re camping next to a highway.

Inside, it’s got that lived-in comfortable feeling rather than the sterile hotel vibe – I mean, it’s technically an apartment rental, so that makes sense. The furniture’s nothing fancy, but everything works and feels solid. The kitchen’s actually functional too, which is rarer than you’d think with these rental places. I made pasta one night and didn’t have to hunt around for a decent pot or wonder if the stove would actually heat up properly. Small victories, you know? The bathroom’s compact but well-designed – good water pressure, which matters more than people realize until they don’t have it. One thing to note though: the Wi-Fi can get a bit spotty in the bedroom, but it’s perfectly fine in the main living area and on that terrace.

Speaking of the neighborhood, there’s this great little bakery about two blocks down that opens ridiculously early – perfect if you’re one of those people who needs proper bread with breakfast. And if you’re into the whole Leipzig music scene thing, you’re actually pretty well positioned here. The Volkmarsdorf area has some interesting venues that aren’t on every tourist map, plus you can walk to the bigger spots without breaking the bank on taxis. Parking’s street parking, which can be a bit of a game during weekdays, but weekends are usually fine. The 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it delivers on what it promises. The terrace really does make the difference, especially if you visit during the warmer months. There’s something nice about having your own outdoor space in a city, even if it’s not huge. It’s the kind of place where you might actually want to stay in for an evening instead of feeling like you have to escape your accommodation.
