Ferienhaus am Auensee Overview

First Impressions

The Ferienhaus am Auensee sits in Leipzig’s Wahren district, and honestly, it caught me off guard in the best way possible. This four-star property feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s house than a typical hotel — which makes sense, given that “Ferienhaus” literally means holiday home. The building has this understated charm that doesn’t scream for attention, but you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long day of exploring Leipzig.

The Wahren Advantage

I’ll be straight with you — Wahren isn’t the tourist center, but that’s actually its secret weapon. You’re close enough to reach Leipzig’s historic core without dealing with the crowds and noise that come with staying right in the Altstadt. The Auensee lake is practically on your doorstep, which means morning walks that feel like you’ve escaped the city entirely. Couples seem to get this — they consistently rate the location highly, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about having a peaceful retreat while still being connected to everything Leipzig offers.

The Space Itself

The room I stayed in felt spacious in a way that most city accommodations just don’t manage. Everything’s been thoughtfully designed without being fussy about it — clean lines, comfortable furniture, and windows that actually let in decent light. The whole place has this residential feel that makes you want to settle in rather than just crash for the night. I mean, you could easily spend a lazy afternoon here without feeling cooped up, which says something about how they’ve used the space.

What Sets It Apart

Recent guests have been rating this place at 9.0 for location, and after spending time here, I get it completely. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re discovering something locals know about rather than following the tourist trail. The Friedrich-Bosse-Straße address might not mean much until you’re actually here, but then you realize you’re in this quiet residential area that still connects easily to Leipzig’s main attractions. The Auensee proximity is genuinely special — not many places let you have lakeside tranquility and urban access in the same package.

Why Guests Love It

With an 8.8 overall rating, this place clearly hits the mark for most visitors, and I think it comes down to authenticity. You’re not getting cookie-cutter hotel vibes here — instead, it’s more like experiencing Leipzig the way someone who actually lives here might. The Wahren location gives you breathing room while keeping you connected, and the property itself feels genuine rather than manufactured. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having your own peaceful corner of the city while still being able to dive into Leipzig’s music scene, historic sites, and café culture when the mood strikes.

  • Stylishe ruhige Unterkunft – Silvia from Germany – 26 December 2024 (10/10)

Für unsere Zwecke ideal gelegen, da der näheren Umgebung die Verwandten wohnen, welche wir besuchen wollten. Sehr ruhig, sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet und sogar weihnachtlich geschmückt. Also hier kommen wir gern noch mal her.

  • Exceptional – Thomas from Germany – 8 December 2024 (10/10)

    Freundlichkeit der Vermieter

  • It was great value for the money – Ivana from Croatia – 26 June 2024 (9/10)

It was close to the city transport and direct lines to Hauptbahnhof. The apartment had everything we needed, it was cosy, calm and fully equipped kitchen with coffee and everything.

  • Disappointing – Madan from Germany – 11 May 2024 (4/10)

    The location

What could be improved: Broken furniture in the kitchen, everytime you open a kitchen cabinet something falls out. Poor build and just screwed together some stuff that only looks good for eyes and when you touch everything breaks apart.
Squeaky bed – Every turn makes a noise and when you sit it, it sinks down, feels like going to break.
Utensils in kitchen cannot be used at all – Too old, worm out most of the non stick coating falls apart, and not properly cleaned – most of them should be ending in scrap.
Shower door doesn't close properly and leaks.
Only good thing – The location

  • wonderful apartment with easy links to the city centre – Michelle from United Kingdom – 18 March 2023 (10/10)

The apartment was gorgeous, beautifully decorated and had everything you needed. the location was super close to the tram stop making it very convenient and there was a supermarket very close by. The hosts were lovely. Would definitely stay here again.

What could be improved: everything was lovely

  • This place has all you need for a short stay – Alex from Romania – 2 February 2023 (10/10)

It's very clean, spacious, quiet, and lovely furnished. Very pleasant feeling. Large glass doors in the bedroom opening a splendid view of the garden. The host was extremely friendly, would walk us through the apartment to show all the facilities and explain everything. Would happily book again, eventually.

  • Leipzig – Abdulgaffar from Turkey – 13 November 2022 (9/10)

    Location, house and friendliness…

What could be improved: It would be great to know what's going on in the kitchen, because we'd shop around and have better breakfast as a result. But this is a very minor detail. We liked it very much, we would like to stay again.
