Dorint Hotel Leipzig Overview
So I’ve stayed at the Dorint Hotel Leipzig a handful of times now, and honestly? It’s become my go-to whenever I’m in the city. The thing that grabbed me first was the location on Stephanstraße – you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Markt and all those gorgeous medieval buildings, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the tourist crowds right outside your window.
The building itself has this understated elegance that I really appreciate. It’s not trying too hard to be flashy, you know? When you walk into the lobby, there’s this warm, almost residential feeling – like you’re staying at a well-appointed friend’s place rather than some corporate chain. The staff actually remembers you if you’ve been there before, which… well, that’s rare these days. I mean, the rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star – nothing revolutionary, but everything works properly and the beds are genuinely comfortable. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious too, especially considering this is central Europe where hotel bathrooms are usually the size of airplane lavatories.
What really sets this place apart is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’ve got the Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz literally around the corner, which connects you to the whole city via tram – super handy if you’re planning day trips or just want to explore beyond the Altstadt. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: there’s this fantastic little bakery about two blocks down Stephanstraße that opens at 6 AM, and their pretzels are honestly better than what you’ll get at most of the touristy spots near the Thomaskirche. The hotel’s breakfast is decent (though not spectacular), but sometimes I’ll skip it and grab something from there instead. Also, if you’re driving, the parking situation is actually manageable – there’s a garage nearby that won’t completely destroy your budget, unlike some places in German city centers. The area gets pretty quiet after about 10 PM, which is perfect if you’re a light sleeper like me. I stayed there during the Christmas market season once and expected chaos, but the Dorint’s position keeps you close enough to walk to everything while still being able to retreat to peace and quiet. That 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s reliable, comfortable, and the location really can’t be beaten if you want to actually experience Leipzig rather than just sleep somewhere in Leipzig.
Leipzig’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of Saxon tradition and modern comfort, with many featuring classical music concierge services and traditional German hospitality.

Location
What could be improved: –A pleasant short stay – Fazekasne from United Kingdom – 27 December 2023 (9/10)
The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were just the right height. The location was convenient and within easy reach to the centre. I liked the fact that there is 24 hours check-in at the reception and did not have to worry about arriving too late after a long plane and train journey combination. The breakfast was amazing.
What could be improved: Other guests previously smoked in the room. ( the smell lingered in the carpet and curtains a bit).Superb – Chaya from United States – 22 October 2023 (9/10)
Staff were friendly. The room was way more than I expected.
What could be improved: The food wasn’t that great.Superb – Sean from Ireland – 5 October 2023 (9/10)
Staff were exceptionally nice and helpful. Breakfast was very good with a wide variety. Showers were excellent.
What could be improved: The pillows are uncomfortable and could be improved.Very good – Fei from Hong Kong – 4 September 2023 (8/10)
The hotel is business hotel like. Nothing to complain about the facilities. The breakfast was great.
What could be improved: It seems there was major misunderstanding between booking.com & the hotel. First they couldn't check us in. Then billed me in different rate (slightly more) when I checked out, then charged again with booking.com agreed rate couple hours later after I checked out and removed it. I needed to call to have ease of mind ( at least it was dealt efficiently ).Then the hotel canceled the booking one day after my check out (perhaps because of the different rate they charged me), super messy and confusing. It took away the good impression for sure.
