Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to City Rooms Gede on Riesaer Straße – I mean, Engelsdorf isn’t exactly the postcard part of Leipzig that most tourists rave about. But you know what? Sometimes being a bit off the beaten path works in your favor. This little 3-star spot actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying out here is that you get a genuine feel for how Leipzig locals actually live, away from the tourist crowds around the Markt. Engelsdorf has this quiet, residential vibe – you’ll hear birds in the morning instead of trams clattering by at 6 AM. The hotel itself feels more like a well-run guesthouse than some corporate chain property. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (no upselling or lengthy presentations about amenities), and the staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure I had everything I needed. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but honestly, the bed was better than some 4-star places I’ve stayed at in the city center. What really won me over was the attention to small details: good water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that actually block light, and – this might sound minor but it’s huge – electrical outlets positioned where you can actually reach them from the bed.

Getting into Leipzig proper is surprisingly easy from here, which I didn’t realize until I asked at the front desk. There’s decent public transport connections, though I’d recommend having the hotel help you figure out the best route depending on where you’re headed. Parking is free and stress-free, which anyone who’s tried to park in Leipzig’s Innenstadt will appreciate. The neighborhood itself grows on you – there’s a decent bakery about a five-minute walk away where locals grab their morning bread, and I stumbled across a surprisingly good Turkish restaurant just down the street. Look, this isn’t the place if you want to stumble out of your hotel and immediately be surrounded by Leipzig’s famous nightlife or right next to the Völkerschlachtdenkmal. But if you’re the type of traveler who doesn’t mind a short journey into the city center and appreciates good value, genuine hospitality, and actually sleeping well at night, City Rooms Gede delivers. That 8.1 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just doing the basics really, really well.

  It was a good price for the value of staying in Leipzig. Friendly and helpful staff, a clean apartment, a convenient location (a few minutes from the S-bahn Leipzig-Engelsdorf), a quite comfortable beds, and an easy access to the main entrance via an access code to access the apartment.
  
  What could be improved: Parking place was occupied, but we have managed to left the car close to building.

  Self check-in and check-out was great, you can arrive very late. The facilities were clean and the bed was comfy. There's a kettle in the room with two cups, ironing board, small fridge and a good wifi. It's not in the city center and it's close to the highway, so it's perfect for one night stay if you're moving on the following day. There's also a big shopping center with Kaufland a couple of minutes by car from the accommodation, you can grab there some dinner.
  
  What could be improved: There are only 3 parking spots reserved for the accommodation, which is not enough. We had to park on the street (for free), but there were many parked cars anyways and we had to park quite far from the accommodation. The room was also quite cold, it took some time to heat it up. Otherwise great.

  The beds were very comfy, the room was very clean.

  What could be improved: it was very hot weather but there is no air conditioning. To sleep with opening windows was difficult as it is very noisy travel street.
  it’s also difficult to check in if you arrive after 7pm-reception doesn’t work and devise for payment and getting code only in Deutsch.
  Ask staff how to switch on the fridge, said that call me back but no neither call, no message.
