You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from a place called “Charmante Dachgeschoss Wohnung” – honestly, the name made it sound a bit stuffy. But this top-floor apartment on Gustav-Adolf-Straße completely won me over, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The location is actually perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Leipzig rather than just visiting it. You’re right in Mitte, which sounds touristy but this particular stretch feels more residential – there’s a bakery downstairs that locals actually use (not one of those tourist traps), and you can walk to the Marktplatz in maybe ten minutes without hitting the main crowds. The building itself has that solid, pre-war German character – thick walls, high ceilings, the kind of place where you don’t hear your neighbors even when the windows are open. Speaking of which, being on the top floor means you get these amazing slanted ceilings and skylights that make the whole space feel surprisingly bright, even on those gray Leipzig winter days.

What really gets me about this place is how thoughtfully it’s set up. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need – there’s proper counter space in the kitchen (rare in European apartments, trust me), decent water pressure in the shower, and they’ve managed to fit in a washing machine without making the place feel cramped. The WiFi actually works throughout the apartment, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong. I stayed here during a busy conference week and never had connection issues, even when I was video calling back home. The furnishings feel intentional too – not that generic IKEA look you get in so many rentals, but pieces that actually complement the building’s character. There’s this gorgeous old wooden table by the windows where I ended up working most mornings with coffee from that bakery downstairs.

Parking was easier than I expected – there’s street parking that’s not impossible to find if you’re willing to walk a block or two, though I’d honestly recommend just using Leipzig’s tram system since you’re so well connected here. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s one of those places where all the small things just work properly, from the smooth check-in process to having enough outlets near the bed for your devices. The only minor thing I’d mention is that summer evenings can get a bit warm up under those skylights, but there are good fans and the cross-breeze works well if you open the windows. Really, this felt more like borrowing a friend’s apartment than staying in a typical rental – which in Leipzig’s increasingly crowded accommodation scene, is exactly what you want.

  The amount of space for the price was impressive. The view from the fourth floor was incredible. Even though I didn't use it a lot, the kitchen, plates, cups, utensils, and refrigerator space came in very handy for storing snacks. As a bonus, the skylight lets you see the stars at night, and I realized I can see more stars in Leipzig than where I live. The air must be cleaner in Saxony than in the USA!
  
  What could be improved: I should start by saying that I am usually a very fussy guest, so I have been racking my brains trying to find something to complain about, and I just can't do it. Everything was great. Older guests may want to be aware that there is a climb of about three and a half flights of stairs to get to the Dachgeschoss. It didn't bother me, because I've been to Europe before, so I know that many buildings have no elevators.

  Equipped, pleasant apartment, overlooking the courtyard with trees. The apartment has absolutely everything you could need. Close to tram stop, railway station or city centre, zoo, arena….
