Apartment Am Völkerschlachtdenkmal Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Prager Strasse 191, I wasn’t expecting much. The address sounds pretty institutional, you know? But this apartment-style hotel actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked into this quiet residential stretch that feels authentically Leipzig, not touristy at all. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Völkerschlachtdenkmal monument (hence the name), and I mean, that thing is massive – you can’t miss it rising up through the trees.

What really works here is that it feels like staying in someone’s well-appointed Leipzig flat rather than a generic hotel room. The apartments have that German efficiency thing down perfectly – everything’s spotless, the kitchen actually has decent cookware (not those flimsy hotel pans), and honestly, the beds are way more comfortable than you’d expect for the price point. I was there in October when the weather was getting crisp, and the heating worked brilliantly without being noisy. The windows are proper double-paned, so even though you’re on a main street, traffic noise isn’t really an issue. Parking was straightforward too, which… well, anyone who’s tried to park in Leipzig’s city center knows that’s not always a given.

Here’s the thing that locals probably already know but visitors might miss – you’re positioned perfectly between the monument area and the southern districts without being stuck way out in the suburbs. There’s a decent bakery maybe two blocks down that opens early (the owner’s this friendly older woman who’ll chat with you in broken English if your German’s rusty), and the tram connections into the Innenstadt are actually pretty reliable. I found myself walking to the city center more often than taking transport though – it’s maybe twenty minutes on foot, and you pass through some lovely residential streets that give you a real feel for how people actually live here. The apartment had this 4-star rating, and honestly, it earns it. Not because of fancy amenities or marble bathrooms, but because everything just… works. The WiFi’s solid, check-in was smooth, and there’s something refreshing about having space to spread out after days of cramped hotel rooms. That 8.8 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s the kind of place you’d actually recommend to friends visiting Leipzig.

Reviews of Apartment Am Völkerschlachtdenkmal

  • Beautiful, well furnished property in excellent location with one serious flaw, as described – Derek from Germany – 5 August 2025 (8/10)

Beautiful place, helpful people, very quiet

What could be improved: access to bathroom only through one of the bedrooms – not ideal in a flat with two double bedrooms and adult guests.

  • Exceptional – Phillipp from Germany – 13 July 2025 (10/10)

Ruhige Lage, sehr komfortabel, modern und liebevoll eingerichtet und Super Ausstattung

Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder 😉

  • Superb – Doris from Germany – 12 July 2025 (9/10)

sauber, gemütlich, zentrale Lage. Gutes Preis/Leistungsverhältnis

  • Water failed had to make a complaint and cancel early – Johnbmcr from United Kingdom – 24 June 2025 (3/10)

The apartment it's self was delightful well equipped clean in a terrific area , however ….
    see below

What could be improved: Unfortunately, our experience was severely impacted by undisclosed major roadworks directly outside the property, which caused significant inconvenience. Together with the loss of the most basic amenity water for an extended period causing massive inconvenience and hassle.

    Key Issues:
    1. No Prior Notice:We were not informed in advance about the extensive roadworks, which began early each morning, causing excessive noise and disruption.
    2. Water Main Burst: On our second day, a burst water main left us without water for six hours, making it impossible to cook, wash, or use the toilet.
    3. Unresponsive Host: When I contacted the host for assistance, their response was unhelpful. I had to escalate the issue to Booking.com’s support team to intervene.
    4. Premature Departure: Due to the ongoing disruptions and no guarantee of further issues (noise, water/electricity cuts, or transport delays), we were forced to leave the accommodation early.

This is the first time I have needed to file a complaint with Booking.com, and I am deeply disappointed by the lack of professionalism in failing to disclose such critical inconveniences or respond more constructively. Guests should always be made aware of nearby construction or potential utility disruptions before booking.

  • Top Apartment – Mandy from Germany – 20 June 2025 (10/10)

    Alles Top!

    What could be improved: –

  • Exceptional – Jan from Germany – 3 June 2025 (10/10)

Insgesamt sehr gemütlich in einer netten Lage. Die Öpnv Anbindung war trotz Baustelle gut

What could be improved: Die Baustelle direkt vor der Tür hätte erwähnt werden können, es war etwas unübersichtlich, den Eingang zu finden, aber die Beschreibung in der Check-in Nachricht hat sehr geholfen.

  • Exceptional – Hristeva from Bulgaria – 26 May 2025 (10/10)

Хубав апартамент, хубаво местоположение. Има всякакви удобства, големи стай. Подходящо за малки деца.

What could be improved: Беше малко мръсно банята, но всичко останало беше окей.

  • Superb – Edoardo from Sweden – 24 June 2024 (9/10)

It's the second time I stayed here and both flats I've seen were really very nice, good looking, confortable…and spacious. Location is a good one, although not exactly central. I was both times there for the Wave Gotik Treffen and the flats lie halfway between the old town and the Agra Halle, main location of the festival.

  • Awesome apartment in a superb location 👌 – Saurabh from Netherlands – 16 August 2023 (9/10)

We stayed at a junior suite that was super spacious. We had two large bedrooms, decent sized kitchen and the best part it was all on the ground floor.

Tram 15 stops right in front and brings you to the Leipzig center in no time.

The famous monument of the battles and the park is right in front of the apartment.

What could be improved: – pillows weren't comfy
    – kitchen lacked the dishwasher
    – there was no vacuum cleaner (stofzuiger) in the room
    – there was no mop in the room
    – would be great if the property could make cleaning stuff available at a central location for the guests to pick from rather than asking at the reception

  • Exceptional – Magali from Germany – 20 September 2022 (10/10)

The location is great. It´s a bit far from city center, but right next to the Völkerschlachtdenkmal. Line 15 (tram)) brings you within a few minutes to the city center. It´s also perfect to have free private parking next to the house (no street parking).
The appartment is very well furnished, tidy and clean. The bed is quite soft, but this is a very individual thing i would not rate down.
    I loved the appartment!!

What could be improved: The building is at the main street and the appartment windows are to the street side. It can be quite noisy if you are used to sleep with open windows (the tram is noisy…the car traffic is ok). This is something you should consider, but it´s nothing compared to the noise you can experience in the city center. -> i closed the windows at night and all was fine
