Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to 866 Plagwitz Apartment on Gießerstraße, I wasn’t exactly blown away by the exterior. It’s this converted industrial building that looks pretty typical for this part of Leipzig, but you know what? That’s actually perfect because you’re right in the heart of Plagwitz, which is easily one of the coolest neighborhoods in the city. I mean, this used to be all factories and warehouses, and now it’s where all the artists and young creatives have set up shop. You can literally walk to Spinnerei – that massive old cotton mill turned art complex – in about ten minutes, and there’s this great little café called Westwerk just around the corner that does incredible breakfast (trust me on this one).

The apartment itself is pretty straightforward – it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect luxury, but honestly it has everything you need and the space is actually bigger than I expected. Room 8 gets decent light, which matters more than you’d think when you’re staying somewhere for a few days. The building can be a bit echoey in the mornings – you’ll hear people coming and going – but it’s not terrible, and by evening things quiet down nicely. What I really appreciated was how easy it was to get around from here. The tram stop is literally a two-minute walk, and you can be in Leipzig’s old town in maybe fifteen minutes. But here’s the thing – you might not want to leave the neighborhood that often because Plagwitz has this amazing energy, especially along Karl-Heine-Straße where there’s always something happening.

The area really comes alive in the evenings, and I found myself just wandering around discovering these little bars and galleries I never would have found otherwise. There’s this spot called Conne Island nearby that does live music, and honestly some of the best Vietnamese food I’ve had outside of Berlin is at this unassuming place called Thuy. The apartment’s location puts you right in the middle of all this without being directly on the main drag, so you get the vibe without the constant street noise. Parking can be a bit of a hunt if you’re driving – it’s mostly street parking and locals know all the good spots – but public transport is so good here that you really don’t need a car. For what you pay and where you are, it’s solid value, especially if you want to experience Leipzig beyond the tourist center and see what the city actually feels like to live in.

  What could be improved: der Schlüssel war nicht in der Box, dafür kam uns aus der Wohnung ein vietnamesischer Arbeiter entgegen, der gerade auf der Toilette war, der hatte den Schlüssel und hat fast vergessen ihn uns zu geben. Das war etwas irritierend.
